Brazil - Brazilian exports of machinery and equipment increased 32.8% in September, compared to the same month in 2016. Data released by the Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Industry (Abimaq) indicate that the manufacturers of the sector earned US $ 813 million with foreign sales last month. The value, however, was 2.7% below revenues from shipments in August.

In the year to date, the Brazilian capital goods industry recorded a 9.4% increase in exports, reaching US $ 6.5 billion. For Abimaq, in addition to the decline in the demand of the domestic market, the activity in the international market improved.

"Many companies have maintained their productive activities with a good part of their revenues related to exports, although with reduced profitability and possible loss due to the appreciation of the exchange rate," the association said in a statement.

The main destinations for Brazilian products were Latin America, the United States and Europe, according to Abimaq.

Foreign purchases totaled US $ 9.5 billion in the first nine months of the year, 21.9% lower than the same period of last year. But in September the index registered a positive result: imports reached US $ 1.17 billion, growth of 16.8% over September 2016 and 7% over August.

In total, the revenues of the Brazilian machinery and equipment industry in 2017 added R $ 50.05 billion in the accumulated.
